Selling your toys

Selling your toys has always been a problem in most areas of the country and from what I have seen lately it is getting worse. I try to ask people when I am at a toy show how the market is going and the most common story is getting the same customers and not building new clientele.

I find this answer in every part of the country I go to. There are several reasons for this. Toy shows are mostly a local event and unless it is a very large venue the weekend hunter can not make a trip to sell something that he does not know the real value of.

I am going to go by a list I made up several years ago to cover all the places to sell your toys and it is not going to be a large one.  There are many reasons for this and I know you don't want to spend the time reading a lot of stuff that will not get you to where you can sell your toys.

1. We have to use geography to help get this paper written as there are many areas of the country there is no local market for toys such as matchbox and hot wheels.

LOCAL AUCTION HOUSES

Local auction houses that usually have a Friday night or Saturday night auction is not a good option but it is an option. First get some idea of the value of the toys first and then when you place the toys up for auction put a reserve on the toys if it is allowed. If it is not allowed Then I would not use that auction service.

If you allow the items to hit the auction floor without a reserve then the auctioneer has the right to sell the items to the highest bidder and it is not fun to see a box of hot wheels sell for two dollars. The buyer makes out like a bandit and I go home with two dollars.

The local auction house in a small town usually has the same people and there are always a few eBay dealers at every auction so with two people bidding on your toys you might get a reasonable value for your toys, but remember research.

Toy Clubs

One of the best arenas for making contacts are toy clubs. Most of the major cities in the US has toy collector clubs.

Don't expect to get a lot of results from contacting toy clubs and always be on the lookout for people trying to cheat you from these clubs. Most are honest people in these clubs but there is never an absolute in anything. below is a list of clubs for some of the toys you may have.

That is enough for today I have stage four cancer and my strength has to be divided up between several projects I am working on. Will write some more on this project in the morning.
