INTRODUCTION
After spending over thirty years traveling around the country
and searching for antiques and collectibles I have finally taken the time to put
down on paper a few observations on the concepts, techniques and general know
how of searching out items you want to either keep for yourself or to resell.
The book will cover the many different formats or types of sales you can
frequent to search for that one of a kind treasure or to fill out a collection
you have started.
This book is not about a certain kind of collectible. It is
about the many different ways you can turn a Saturday into a day of fun and at
the end of the day you just might have a car full of treasures. I have included
a few of my tall tales or adventures I have collected over the years to show
that you can make those once in a lifetime finds. This is not to say you will
but we all hope to add that to our lifes experiences.
It is becoming increasingly harder to find items of value at a
good price as in the past ten years digital communications such as the internet
has shrank our world to a small screen setting on our desk. Now everyone has the
knowledge or 3 believe they do of the value of their items. You have to have
more knowledge of where to look, what to look for and most important what is
selling. To have an antique worth thousands of dollars has no value if there is
no market for the item. This book will help you in knowing where to look, what
to look for and how to determine what is selling. The book is nothing more than
common sense used everyday, but I have tried to write the book so you can
organize your outings to insure at least a change to find items you would have
normally passed up.
I have covered the many different formats where antiques and
collectibles will be present. I am not an expert on anything, just someone who
has kept records and observed my environment as I traveled around the country.
If you are an expert you have picked the wrong material to read. It was written
for the person who has limited knowledge of collecting and would like to know
more about the hobby. Please enjoy the book in the context it was written as a
guide and entertainment.
