First storage auction of the new year and as
usual it was an evening auction that starts at six in the evening and after
only a few minutes it was getting dark.
This auction requires a good fresh flashlight as you have to use it to see the inside of the units late in the evening and after dark. I will get better at taking pictures at all the auctions I post but at this one I took only 2 pictures. Really a good auction except for the high prices paid for the units. Since most were small 5 by 10 ft units you would think the average would be around two hundred dollars but most of these went for over four hundred dollars and there was nothing there for the cost. A few of us older participates did a lot of sightseeing as we were looking for bargains and there were very few there. The auction had 20 units with 3 empty when opened. One had some nice heavy furniture that went for 650 and one large one that went for 700 with a lot of boxes and no large furniture. One of the small units 5 by 5 had 3 fiddle cases near the front of the unit with a lot of smaller junk furniture in the unit. I thought I would see just how far the people were willing to go for the unit once the fiddle cases where seen. As with most states you look from the outside but don't go inside. So the cases could have been empty. I bid the unit to 485 dollars before giving it away. Crazy. Units with mostly boxes with smalls in them are the preferred units now as people believe this is where the treasures are at and they are really correct if you are looking for the wow factor as is the key words now. I ended up buying 2 units for a total of 240 dollars. one for 90 dollars and one for 150 dollars. I have been doing this for over 40 years and should have know better but I did it anyway. the small one I will take a bath on but the larger one had some Harley Davidson items, a couple of CBs and a large lot of hand tools so when I start yard selling out of my storage unit this summer I will get my money back. Usually there are around 10 to 20 people at this auction but now the average is over 50 people. Since I am so old I am lucky to have a friend who also buys at these auctions and if there are any large furniture pieces I generally give them to him and he cleans out the garbage from the units and hauls it off for me. A good thought if you are only interested in the small stuff and have no place to get rid of the big furniture. Below are links to two pictures I took but there will be more Monday from a very large house auction we attend at least once a month. This auction generally has items from several estates.
